Design Matters is this fantastic podcast by the great Debbie Millman.
I have known about this podcast for a long time but only recently found the time to dive in!
This episode features someone I would consider to be an awesome web buddy of mine, Kate Bingaman-Burt.
Kate has always been super encouraging to me, and I have always appreciated her work and enthusiasm for design.In this interview I realized how profound Kate’s work really is. She has cataloged consumption in many forms over the years, and these catalogs tell very interesting stories.
In some ways her worrk is light and fun, and in other ways it’s more like fine art; a conceptual snapshot of the consumptive aspect of our current culture.
Because of this, Kate’s fun handrawn aesthetic is in some ways misleading. This is a good thing though because it is this accesible exterior that makes the deeper aspects of her work so inviting to consume!
