Design Week Portland serves to enlighten your brain with all-things-design: talks, workshops, events, films, open-studios, and more! DWP is a great thing coming to Portland and being put together by some incredible folks. Here’s a snippet from their website: “Portland is a city of design and for design, unique in its approach to defining place, culture, and attitude. Design Week Portland celebrates design as our city’s most promising cultural and economic resource. Our purpose is to explore process, craft, and practice across disciplines through our city’s vibrant design programming.”

Registration opens Tuesday September 18th and on for the events (you’ll need to get a ticket through Eventbrite). Most of the events are free, some are paid, but all will be awesome! We will be hosting our own event during DWP that’s a collaborative workshop!

So, my pal Jeremy and I are going to be teaming up on a workshop in a few weeks. Check out the links below for more details and thanks to OMFGCO for the fancy promo seen above.

It’s not as complicated as it seems: Kate Bingaman-Burt and our own Jeremy Pelley are contributors to the “Hybrid Careers” workshop on October 6th, presented by College Art Association and Oregon College of Art and Craft. Find out more here.

Cari Vander Yacht is stellar. She is also the person behind the Ugly Face Wednesdays that I talk about in some of my lectures. She has a new show opening tonight at the truly incredible Nationale. GO GET IT!

Of all the paintings I own, one of my favorites is a Cari Vander Yacht watercolor that was part of her show a couple years ago at TIGA (which is a great place for drinks not far from Ampersand). So, I’m always excited to see what she’s up to when if comes to making art. Her new show opens tonight at Nationale from 6 to 9PM. It involves masks, which I’m a bit obsessed with, so there’s that much more reason to check it out. (As a side note, the Phyllis Galembo show at Blue Sky titled Maske is amazing; don’t miss it.)
While out & about for the First Friday openings in SE, I’m also planning on hitting the Priya Kambli opening at Newspace Center for Photography & a show at Union/Pine celebrating the art of craft, which has been curated by our friends Jocelyn & Robert Rahm of Beam & Anchor.
